Projects

Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.  Below are the projects in which we are currently involved:

Aktion Club Members of this Kiwanis Club work at and meet monthly at the Ability Building Center. As their Sponsor, members of their club often join us in some of our projects as well as hold their annual car wash fundraiser. John Ernste
Century High School Key Club A Kiwanis High School Service Organization whom we sponsor, whose goal is to produce well-rounded students through service to school and community. Their Motto: "Caring - Our way of Life". Stephan Lawler
Century High School Student of the Month Sunrisers Kiwanis honor exceptional seniors who have shown dedication not only in their school studies and activities, but have also participated heavily in community service. David Rinden
Century High School Youth Scholarship Kiwanis sponsors a $1000 scholarship to an outstanding senior who shows dedication, hard work, talent, and a desire to build a better community. Lyle Solem
Child Care and Resource Referral Family Fun Night A one night event in April, the Kiwanis volunteers work together in threes for one hour shifts to sell tickets. Mark Fosse
Ice Melt Fundraiser Fundraiser for the club to cover our activity costs, we sell ice melt to local businesses as well to you, the consumer. Contact John today for delivery. John Ernste
Kids Against Hunger The Stewartville Kiwanis, Key Club and Builder Club will sponsor the seventh annual Kids Against Hunger food pack event April 10, with most of the food going to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. James Paulson
Nursing Home Visit on Good Friday Kiwanis members gather at a chosen nursing home on Good Friday, bringing flowers, cards and good cheer to residents on Good Friday. Paul Michels
Quarry Hill Nature Center Fall Festival A weekend event in the fall, volunteers assist with parking organization and the safety of the visitors. Lyle Solem
Read Around the World - All City Book Exchange A one day event in the spring, volunteers gather to collect used children's books to distribute to the local elementary schools. The books are then distributed to each child for taking home and reading. Community volunteers are welcome. Lyle Solem
Read Around the World - Lunch Buddies Volunteers listen to children read aloud one day a week, 25 minutes per student, for 10 weeks. The program takes place during the months of January, February and March. Community volunteers are welcome. Catherine Farley
River Walk Clean up the public walkway along the river near the Rochester Rec Center. Held weekly throughout the spring, volunteers sign up and work in pairs on a chosen day, keeping our public walkways beautiful. Diane Solem
Rochester Kiwanis Hockey Tournament The hockey tournament is an ongoing, yearlong commitment for Kiwanis members involved in the planning and preparation of the event. To accommodate all of the local as well as visiting teams, the event takes place over three days during the end of December. At that time, all Kiwanis participate to insure the tournament be a success for our youth and our community. John Ernste
Rochester Senior Citizen Center Chili Feed An all day chili feed for all of your friends and family. Our volunteers work in the kitchen helping to serve food, wash dishes, buss tables, etc. A fun day in March. Charles McDonnell
Salvation Army Bell Ringing Volunteers work together in pairs to cover one hour shifts, ringing the bells throughout the day in December during the holiday season. James Paulson
Terrific Kids Honoring teacher selected elementary students with the Kiwanis Terrific Kids Award at the Churchill Elementary School assembly. Songs and Celebrations fill this 45 minute commitment each month. Volunteer once or as often as you like. Lyle Solem
